Mrs. Donna Parchment Brown - Jamaica.

CURB is happy to highlight the restorative justice work of Mrs. Donna Parchment Brown from the island of Jamaica.

Mrs. Donna Parchment Brown is an Attorney-at-Law, Mediator, Trainer and a founding member of the Dispute Resolution Foundation (DRF) and has been its CEO since 1994 when the organization began. The DRF provides advocacy, training and services in Restorative Justice, Mediation, Arbitration, facilitation and related alternative dispute resolution techniques and practices.

She has helped to design policy and support delivery of Mediation training to the police and for all the courts of Jamaica, in several under-served urban communities in Jamaica and throughout the region to member states of the OECS, Guyana, The Bahamas, Belize.

A strong and fervent advocate of Restorative Justice, she has promoted training in this area supported by the Ministry of Justice, and was a part of the Jamaican Team facilitating the 1st and 2nd Restorative Justice Week in Jamaica in 2007 and 2008.

She spent her earlier professional career in private practice in the law and in public service. She has served as a Vice President of the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League Limited and as a Commissioner on two Commissions of Enquiry.

Mrs. Parchment Brown is on the ad hoc faculty of the Kettering Foundation in Dayton, Ohio teaching deliberative democracy techniques, a member of the Jamaican Bar Association, and Chairman of the Hampton School Board, her alma mater. She has also served as a Commissioner of the Fair Trading Commission, is Deputy Chairman of the Peace Management Initiative, Director of the St. Elizabeth Homecoming Foundation and of United Way of Jamaica.

In 2004, she was awarded the National Honour of Commander of the Order of Distinction, for her national contribution in the field of dispute resolution.

In 2007 she co-authored an Issue Book – “We Want Justice - Getting to the Goal of Justice for All” which was sponsored by the Kettering Foundation. In 2008, she collaborated on an Issue Brief dealing with Corruption, also for Kettering Foundation.
